Breastfeeding 101 (#5)
“Breastfeeding makes the world healthier, smarter, and more equal: these are the conclusions of a new Lancet Series on breastfeeding.”
Yet breastfeeding rates in Australia remain below those recommended by the WHO and the NHMRC.
In ‘Breastfeeding 101’, we will review the anatomy and physiology of lactation. Data from the Australian Breastfeeding Association’s National Breastfeeding Helpline provides information about which breastfeeding concerns are most common in the community. These will be explored, and compared with breastfeeding questions common to Medical Mums. We will then look at some strategies for the management of these common breastfeeding problems.
Information presented will be relevant to our role as parents, as well as our role as doctors caring for breastfeeding mothers and their children.
