The Travelling Family (#18)
Travelling with extra companions – either small children or a fetus on board for the pregnant traveller - brings in to play a whole range of scenarios that increase risk and stress for the family and the medical practitioner involved in their care. Families are now travelling to more exotic and riskier destinations as the cost of travel has dropped to the point where it is often cheaper to buy the flights than it is to purchase travel insurance. This session will cover the prevention and treatment of common issues including gastrointestinal illness, jetlag and required immunisations, as well as touching on how to manage some of the current controversy relating to travel in the era of Zika where research and evidence are often a few steps behind reactive policies. The session will also provide you with advice on the best resources to help you make decisions in the more tricky situations. This session will be useful for medical parents as well as those involved in working with adventurous families.
