Setting up private practice as a Physician (#24)

I set up my private practice as an Endocrinologist when I was in my first trimester of my 2nd pregnancy with a 4 year old at home.  That was nearly 6 years ago.  I will share a little of my journey and what I got right and what I would do differently if I had my time again.

For those considering starting working privately as a Physician there are many things to consider including set up costs, ideal location of private practice, what days/hours to work (and are they family friendly?), deciding what to charge & how to do it, marketing strategies that work (and those that don’t), cover for sick or annual leave, cover for maternity leave and many more.

If you choose to set up your own practice then there is a lot more to consider and I’ll briefly touch on topics such as hiring reception staff, rostering of staff, ongoing practice costs and where to get help.  I will also discuss overall how viable it is to set up your own practice as a Physician.

Finally, I will focus on what makes private practice different to seeing patients in a public outpatient clinic.

Private practice as a Physician can be a very rewarding experience and it can be very family friendly - why not give it a go?
